Route tracking
Allow Bird Journal to track your route when recording on the mobile apps. The route should then be shown on the entry report on all apps, including the desktop apps.

Allow import/copy-paste on the taxonomy edit screen
Currently, you have to add data to the taxonomy editor by hand. It would be great to be able to import or copy-paste from a website/spreadsheet.
53 votesWe’re considering if we can make a basic form of this available fairly soon.
This may mean accepting only a predefined format that we’d have samples for.
Now that all library content is available to everyone this feature is even more valuable.

Allow customise Species Progress graphs on summary page
It would be useful to be able to customise the graph on the Summary Page as I have little use for birds seen last day, last month etc so would like to take them off. However I would like fields like UK list, European list etc. Having facilities to customise this will be great as people can get the counts they want as soon as they go into the program.

Revert to v4 photo thumbnails displayed by month
In v5 you can only see a narrow strip of photo thumbnails on LH side. In previous versions, it was possible to see all the photos for a relevant month at once and the ability to scroll through many rows of thumbnails at a time. Thus; you can see at a glance the quality birds you saw (or not) that month: or, just scroll through the years and reminisce ..

Allow bulk update between taxonomies
For example, maybe you want to switch to recording with IOC instead of Clements, maybe you want to use the version of a wildlife taxonomy from the library rather than a custom item.
This is separate from replacing individual species which will be completed as part of the taxonomy update work, now started: http://support.birdjournal.com/forums/262707-general/suggestions/11372313-update-ioc-clements-world-lists-taxonomy-changes

Automatically empty search field after a species has been added to the entries
After you have pressed the 'done' button, to add a species to the observations, it would be convenient if the search field was emptied automatically, so you can start a new search right away

Enable multiple species checklists to be active
In the mobile app it would be useful if more than one species checklist could be active, for example if birds, butterflies, and dragonflies could be open simultaneously, it would save constant switching between checklists in the field. It would be a useful feature on the PC too.

Keep filter when switching between species and entry screens etc.
At the moment when switching between the entries view and the species view (and other reports and views too) the filters are cleared. Can we keep them on switching, please? It's only a single button press to clear them, if that's what you wanted, but it is harder work to restore them.

Set the GeoTag for a new location, when created in the field
When adding a new entry in the mobile app, it will create a new location for you, if the name doesn't match any existing location.
If live mode is enabled, this location should have it's GeoTag set via the GPS.
This would make submitting to BirdTrack, which requires GeoTags for all locations, much easier.
24 votesThis is a great idea. We’ll include this when updating mobile input screens.

Sync to eBird & BirdTrack
Bird Journal's import/export from/to eBird & BirdTrack are pretty good.
It's not possible to do this from the mobile apps though.
What would be better is if you could "link" your account to your eBird & BirdTrack accounts, and Bird Journal would take care of "syncing" your records to those systems automatically, and prompting you to review something when needed.
22 votesThis is something we’re considering. For technical reasons we’d need to hold a copy of your eBird/BirdTrack password to make this possible.
Is that something you’d be comfortable with?
It’s obviously not ideal, but we’d make sure everything is fully secure.

Have the program notify you when a bird is a life bird
Most of the other programs I have used have a small pop-up that says lifer or life-bird when a species is recorded for the first time. I don't see that happening on the Mac version at least.
22 votesA number of lifer/first features have recently been added and are now in beta:
– Badges and summary on the entry page
– New customisable premium Firsts report
– Enhanced premium Species Progress graph (Formerly Intra Year Species Progress)We plan to add notifications while entering as well a little later. This suggestion captures this intent.

"Year Firsts Count" graph
Add a new "Year Firsts Count" graph. It would look much like the current Year Species Count graph, but instead of showing the species count for each year it would show the number of lifers/firsts (filterable) for each year.
After discussion via Facebook & Twitter this was considered a "nice to have" rather than "must have", etc. Feel free to vote for it if you would like to see it added!
(It's pretty easy to do.)

Metric values
In countries using the metric system such as Australia it would be extremely useful to be able to select metric values rather than converting acres to hectares and miles to kilometres. Its sometimes just a little frustrating..

Add a country/location/patch/region first badge
Similar to the newly added Lifer! and Year First! badges, allow firsts for a country, locatation, patch or region to be indicated.
Country First could be added pretty easily.
For patch/locations we'd need to customise which locations you wanted to show firsts for. Perhaps by allowing you to "Favorite" locations? Favorite locations could also show counts on the summary screen.

Create a search option
I noticed that I often find myself searching for a bird within the app. I have never seen an option to search for a certain bird in your seen species tab.
For the birders amongst us who have seen thousands of birds, it would be very helpful to have a search option to look quickly find a certain bird.
