Date range filtering for mobile apps
Allow a range of dates, not just year & month, to be selected when filtering in the mobile apps.
It is currently only possible to do this using the version 5 full software.
The same flexibility in terms of: year to year, year-month to year-month and exact date ranges should be available.

Date range filtering for export screen
In the version 5 full software, it is possible to filter by date range. This doesn't extend to the export screen though, which still has just year/month filters.

Allow for custom properties on photos
Photo properties currently include GeoTag, Time, and Caption. I would like to be able to add custom properties to each photo (e.g. photo ID, photographer, etc.).

Allow maps to rotate
Provide an option to swivel the map around rather than having to twist your head off your shoulders! (Originally suggested by Ian Bennell)
FEEDBACK NEEDED: Which maps would this be useful for? Picking geotags, browsing maps or both?

Indicate when library updates are available in the mobile apps
The Bird Journal desktop apps indicate when library updates are available by showing a colourful number badge next to the library button, and then again on the updates tab.
The mobile apps do not currently indicate when library updates are available, meaning they could be missed.
(One exception is that a number badge is shown on the updates tab in the iOS app, but this is not discoverable until opening the library.)
The mobile apps should provide a clear way to indicate library updates are available, taking into account the differing menu presentation in the mobile apps.

Annotate species progress (analysis feature) graph with entries
The species progress graph in the graphs analysis section (not the summary screen) shows points to allow precise values to be seen on hover.
Ideally it would be possible to hover anywhere on the line to see a tooltip, and points would refer to individual (or multiple) entries as annotations. Hovering over them would show a details and allow linking to them.
The original design included this behaviour, but it was not included in the most recent update to this graph, as it was considerably more work:

Allow to exclude subspecies from the checklist report
Just a checkbox on the filter bar would do it.

Allow to customize the number of columns in the checklist report
Via a slider / number box on the filter bar.
Page orientation should switch to landscape if there are too many checkboxes.

Allow wide checkboxes for checklist report
If you want to record a count for each species for each day, then the current narrow checkbox is insufficient.
We should probably allow an option to switch between wide & regular check-boxes to handle both of these cases.

Add blank rows to the end of the checklist report
For missing species or non-bird wildlife

Group by family in the checklist report
Species are currently sorted alphabetically or taxonomically as per settings, but not grouped.
Should this be an option? Should we group by family even when sorting alphabetically? (I think so)

Have more common locations and hotspots already available
This would be via location packs in the library. We'd install "Location Packs" relevant to you.

Provide a feature to remove unnecessary local names from taxonomies
When adding custom taxonomy, users have often entered the full scientific name, as the English name, where no English name was available.
Whilst this is totally fine, it's not required. Bird Journal will automatically use the full scientific name in place of the English (or other language specific) name.
This suggestion is to add a feature that can automatically remove unnecessary local names from a taxonomy. Where the local name matches the full scientific name, it can be safely removed.
We could probably look to add a tools button within the taxonomy editor, which has this on a drop-down menu,…
