An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment I guess we should allow properties to be added to a "To exclude" list in settings, rather than having a specific property for this. Then you can exclude "Heard Only", "Possible Escape", etc as desired. Probably with sensible defaults.

I propose we:
– Add day filtering to the mobile apps
– Add end date filtering to the mobile appsAre you also suggesting we add a species count for a custom date range to the summary screen? If so, I think that would be best captured as a requirement for:

An error occurred while saving the comment Great suggestion Brian. I've wanted to add hotspot locations to Bird Journal for a while, via Location Packs in the library. The user wouldn't need to think about installing this as it would be pre-installed.
If we make these hotspots line up with eBird then data-exchange will be smoother too.

A number of lifer/first features have recently been added and are now in beta:
– Badges and summary on the entry page
– New customisable premium Firsts report
– Enhanced premium Species Progress graph (Formerly Intra Year Species Progress)We plan to add notifications while entering as well a little later. This suggestion captures this intent.

An error occurred while saving the comment EXIF meta-data should already be shown in the photo-information screen. Please send an email to support if that's not the case for you.
I understand this suggestion to specifically cover tags and application specific meta-data.

An error occurred while saving the comment Hi Pamela,
Are you aware you can do this already by creating a custom taxonomy & species?
I would want to add them separately from the official AOU/ABA taxonomies. But they could be published as a separate taxonomy to the library and perhaps be installed for users by default.
What do you think? Happy to approve a "Hybrid & Sp Birds of North America" or similar if published to the library. Perhaps needs a more catchy name..
Best wishes,
Justin

Thanks for the great suggestion Edward.
An error occurred while saving the comment @Annie, clicking on species count bars/segments in graphs takes you to a list of those species, which I think is the most logical behaviour.
It does require an extra click to, e.g. filter to a year, in the entries screen. We'll soon be adding date-range filtering to this, so although it's an extra click away, you'll have more flexibility for it.
I find this suggestion most compelling where it's not already possible to search via the filters. E.g., as discussed, searching by year is already possible using the filters, whereas it's not possible to pick the starting letter of locations, so on a tablet the only option is to scroll all the way.
I'll take a closer look at how Windows 10 does this too.
An error occurred while saving the comment Great suggestion Edward! This wont make the initial launch, but something to consider for an update. Many thanks for sharing.

An error occurred while saving the comment Hi Edward,
I'm not seeing the wheel move so far here. I did a quick check and I suspect it may be possible to configure the distance the mouse wheel scrolls.
Please take a look at "To change how the mouse wheel works" section here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/change-mouse-settings#1TC=windows-7
I didn't have any such options, but perhaps you do?
An error occurred while saving the comment Thank you Edward. Is this on Mac or Windows?

This is a bug that we intend to fix.
An error occurred while saving the comment Great suggestion. Not sure why this wasn't done initially.

An error occurred while saving the comment @Gerald,
You can filter to any ancestor location as well, eg. the county/country/continent, not just the location originally recorded. It's possible the country will not show in the filter box if eg. all of your records are within a single county - in this case filtering to the county achieves the same as filtering to the country anyway.
Geographical regions are more difficult as they don't fit neatly into a hierarchy. We've got ideas on how to address this though.
An error occurred while saving the comment Hi Simon,
You can filter records entered to get lists for a location, year/month, or even by property. Is this not what you are looking for?
Filters will be arriving on the mobile apps very shortly.
Best wishes,
Justin

An error occurred while saving the comment Should this also allow to print them (graphs, maps & photos) directly?
An error occurred while saving the comment Also, this should include maps.

An error occurred while saving the comment We plan to make it easier to view a trip report. PDF/Word export can be achieved via third party tools, but we could add it directly.
There are a number of separate suggestions - I'll mark this one as finished when they've all been completed.

An error occurred while saving the comment Hi Tony,
Just click on the "Entry" tab at the top of the screen when editing an entry. You will be able to update the location for the entry there.
Best wishes,
Justin
An error occurred while saving the comment This is possible on the Android and iOS apps. Just type the name of the new location, and it will prompt you to choose a parent to complete the new location.
We removed it in v4 desktop version as it made things very complicated (from a software perspective). We'd like to add it back, but similar to in the Android and iOS apps where you can quickly add a single location, rather than see the full locations editor.

An error occurred while saving the comment Hi,
You can use the Wildlife Recorder template as found here:
http://support.birdjournal.com/knowledgebase/articles/423788-importing-existing-recordsIt's not independent of commercial software, but is a perfectly generic format that is understood by Bird Journal.
Perhaps it would be useful to allow import of custom formats and have Bird Journal "suggest" which columns are which? (Hopefully getting it right most of the time)

An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks! Looks like we need to do this too.
Current thinking is to have an option in settings, eg:
Sync photos: Never, Desktop only, Always. Where the default would be "Desktop only", meaning photos would sync to all copies of Bird Journal on a PC, but mobile apps would still only download (and store) photos as needed.
What do you think?

How we handle the change to default filtering behaviour will be interesting. I think we’d still want to see all species listed in the species screen by default. So it would probably just be some special logic to exclude them from species counts whereever they are shown.
But.. then how do you allow them to be included temporarily? Maybe you just need to change Settings to allow them if that's what you want, and there's no real temporary use-case.
