When adding custom taxonomy, users have often entered the full scientific name, as the English name, where no English name was available.

Whilst this is totally fine, it's not required. Bird Journal will automatically use the full scientific name in place of the English (or other language specific) name.

This suggestion is to add a feature that can automatically remove unnecessary local names from a taxonomy. Where the local name matches the full scientific name, it can be safely removed.

We could probably look to add a tools button within the taxonomy editor, which has this on a drop-down menu, including plenty of explanation.
