  1. Western Palearctic life list

It is quite normal for birders to have a WP life list (as opposed to Europe). How easy is it for you (or me) to create?

  2. Make the general web page more informative

Have on your main web page about Bird Journal a link to e.g. all the countries etc that are covered, all the wildlife groups that you have covered etc. . In other words, make the page more informative????

  4. On mobile app, add letters to help navigage the subscriber's species list

On the mobile app, the search bar on the right for the Add species list has letters that makes it easier to jump to the area where the species you are looking for is. The search bar for the subscriber's own species list only has dots, and you need to estimate the distance down the line to jump to the right area. Better still, if you could enable to type in letters to more accurately help with the search this would be awsome!

  6. Include a hybrid map option on the desktop version as is used on the app.

Whilst adding my older records on the desktop I'm having to use a map app on my phone to find sites where I've seen certain birds as it's quicker than having to flick between the 2 map options available. A hybrid option which is used on the app would be an excellent addition and save me and others time.

  7. Allow for Genus or "Group" level observations

For larger flocks of Gulls or Geese allow for an observation of Larus spp. or Branta spp. (or some similar, lower level identification). This would allow for better integration with eBird and data collection.

When I input records of visits to me BBS 1-Km square I prefer to use an OS Map Grid Reference to the co-ordinates

  11. Allow 'in the field changes to species' Position/Time on iPhone/Android

Having just returned from Brazil I had several occasions where I inadvertently added the wrong bird species in using live position/time. Later in the day(s) I was informed of the errors, and whilst I could add in the correct species for that day I could not remove the other 'incorrect' species in the field as I would loose the time/position it was seen to add to the correct species with the same position/time. It would be REALLY helpful to have the ability to 'modify in the field' the species you initially entered and replace it correctly without having to add…

  12. Re-postition species name within an entry

When you select entries and then on a specific entry, consider having the species name at the top (rather than it saying 'Entry' above where that date etc is located. You can view the species name more easily and also with the species name at the bottom currently, the text is too cramped and is overexposed on top of species count and Good view etc.

  13. Enter a checklist for Birds Of Florida or even the USA.

Is it possible to have a Florida specific or USA list rather than using the whole world list?

  15. Oceans of World added as Parent Location

As a cruiser I have records of many seabird species from Antarctica to Arctic. Having Ocean as Parent it would be easier to place eg Bering Sea in Pacific.

  16. Only display the parent location, allow user to click to display any nested locations

I have hundreds of locations all in a nice hierarchical structure. For example, In the United States (the parent), hierarchy is broken down state, county, city etc. Instead of scrolling through hundreds of locations, how about clicking United States, scrolling to find Wyoming, click to open up Wyoming, scroll to Laramie County, click Laramie County, then click Medicine Bow National Forest. This is how Windows File Explorer works. I do not programs that expand all nested data automatically. Programs that do I wonder why I waste my time with a nested database structure.

One problem with "barfing out" all of…

  19. Increment count in App

I am using the android app for survey entry in the field (yay notebook never leaves pocket!!). It would be extremely useful once a species is entered in an entry to have a increment button in the entry list to simply add to the count for a selected item in the species list as a new bird is encountered rather than having to enter the species and change the count.

  20. Metric values

In countries using the metric system such as Australia it would be extremely useful to be able to select metric values rather than converting acres to hectares and miles to kilometres. Its sometimes just a little frustrating..
