Update IOC!!
Its now April 2019 and the last Bird Journal IOC update was June 2016 (IOC 6.2). The current version published by IOC is 9.1. Its very disappointing when it takes years to update a fundamental taxonomy. This should be the core of Bird Journal and updated as and when a new version is published.
Unfortunately I am starting to get the feeling that the development (and updating of Bird Journal) is grinding to a halt. We get the occasional new or updated taxonomy created by users themselves, but now almost no in-house developments. Its a shame to see what was a great product apparently stagnate and possibly die:(
IOC 10.1 and corresponding checklist updates are now available in the library. Press Library > Updates then Update All to get them.
If species/subspecies you have used need attention due to possible splits, lumps, etc, then on updating you’ll be prompted to review these using the desktop app. You can open the list of taxonomic update issues at any time via Tools > Taxonomic Updates. There is also a list of changes that affect species/subspecies you’ve used on the Change Details tab.
For more information on taxonomic updates see our guide: http://support.birdjournal.com/knowledgebase/articles/919095-taxonomy-updates-how-to
Please refer to IOC species updates https://www.worldbirdnames.org/updates/species-updates/, subspecies updates https://www.worldbirdnames.org/updates/subspecies-2/ and master lists https://www.worldbirdnames.org/ioc-lists/master-list-2/ if you’re not sure if a split is relevant to your records or not.
If you need further support feel free to drop us an email query.
We’ve started work on 10.2 already so we can be ready to provide a timely update when it’s taken out of draft. We’re planning to get to Clements 2019 before Clements 2020 arrives and then similarly provide a timely update for that.

Justin - can you give a timescale for when you are aiming for this to be available please?

Yes I just paid my subscription also, and it really jarred with me this time considering the 3 year wait for an IOC update, and 4 months since you restarted your efforts. Not here to tell you how to run your business, but if you are unable to do what needs to be done, maybe you need to invest some of the subscription money you've collected into someone who can. From experience, this will be cheaper than losing subscription revenue in the future.

Just had December British Birds (4/12/2019), with RBBP report. Checked on BB site, and the WP list was updated January 1 2019. Any chance of a WP taxonomy update for Bird Journal soon, please - say as a Christmas Present ? You e-mailed me saying my subscription was due. I consider that by paying it, I am doing my part - I would appreciate it if you were to do yours.
Many thanks. -

Hi Justin,
Back in April you said the updates were on the top of your list.
Looks like there is still work to do?
Just back from New Caledonia and "bird journal" list, for this area, is sadly not up to date. e.g
Whistlers and Parakeets.
Honestly..... are you ever going to to sort out your taxonomy issues or are we all just wasting our time? -

Any news on the update? Leaving for a Colombia trip in a few weeks' time and the IOC update would be most welcome.

There are two specific updates that need to be made to the North American library:
1.The Western Scrub-Jay now consists of two species: the California Scrub-Jay and the Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay.
2. The Gray Jay has been changed to the Canada Jay.There are probably more changes - but these are two I've run across recently.
Would you please make these changes to the library as soon as possible?
Thank you.

Another very frustrated customer!....The updates for the checklist should be a priority, this is the whole point of signing up to a database like this, to have an up to date record keeping system.
To say you don't have enough time at the moment is simple not good enough. It's not as if you are just a little behind; you are now three years behind the current IOC list!

Apologies, we need to do better here. It's still at the top of the list, we're just not getting the time we need at the moment.

Have tried to request info on updates, but nobody from Bird Journal seems to reply to any requests, it would appear they don't actually look at these suggestions or comments or their Twitter feed

very DISAPPOINTING , waiting for updates, looking to change my recording program, no good if years out of date. Any updates in the pipeline, the Bird Journal team could at least reply to these concerns.

Agree, has been promised for some time but have failed to deliver. It would be good to have visibility of the timeline. Other software packages like Scythebill can update IOC within days of an update.
