Update IOC!!
Its now April 2019 and the last Bird Journal IOC update was June 2016 (IOC 6.2). The current version published by IOC is 9.1. Its very disappointing when it takes years to update a fundamental taxonomy. This should be the core of Bird Journal and updated as and when a new version is published.
Unfortunately I am starting to get the feeling that the development (and updating of Bird Journal) is grinding to a halt. We get the occasional new or updated taxonomy created by users themselves, but now almost no in-house developments. Its a shame to see what was a great product apparently stagnate and possibly die:(
IOC 10.1 and corresponding checklist updates are now available in the library. Press Library > Updates then Update All to get them.
If species/subspecies you have used need attention due to possible splits, lumps, etc, then on updating you’ll be prompted to review these using the desktop app. You can open the list of taxonomic update issues at any time via Tools > Taxonomic Updates. There is also a list of changes that affect species/subspecies you’ve used on the Change Details tab.
For more information on taxonomic updates see our guide: http://support.birdjournal.com/knowledgebase/articles/919095-taxonomy-updates-how-to
Please refer to IOC species updates https://www.worldbirdnames.org/updates/species-updates/, subspecies updates https://www.worldbirdnames.org/updates/subspecies-2/ and master lists https://www.worldbirdnames.org/ioc-lists/master-list-2/ if you’re not sure if a split is relevant to your records or not.
If you need further support feel free to drop us an email query.
We’ve started work on 10.2 already so we can be ready to provide a timely update when it’s taken out of draft. We’re planning to get to Clements 2019 before Clements 2020 arrives and then similarly provide a timely update for that.

George/Pete, great to hear the updates went smoothly for you.

I've been using the update across my Mac, Windows laptop and iPhone for three days and all seems to be working fine. The splits etc were a doddle to sort if a little time consuming but that was down to the number of records rather than anything else. I think this has been a job well done and has restored my faith in the product. Well done!

Hi Justin , thanks for the updates. Very simple to reconcile the splits etc with my entries . This is a great product , keep up the good work

Thanks Justin, I've figured it out a workaround though. For some reason the update was available via the Android app so I have been able to update through that and it has now synced to my desktop version. I now have 10.1 on desktop :-)
Many thanks

Hi Criag,
I'll take a look and reply to you via email.
Best wishes,
Justin

Hello, thanks for your work updating the update. Unfortunately, the update doesn't appear in Library>Updates for me. When I look in my installed Taxonomies I can see Birds of the World (IOC) version 6.2. When I look in the Taxonomies available to install it shows as version 10.1 but for some reason I'm not getting the option to update. I've tried signing in and out, tried uninstalling and reinstalling and tried on a laptop and a desktop computer but with no luck. Have you any ideas how I can fix this?
Many Thanks

When you do get round to updating the IOC will you be still using v.9.1? Version 10.1 is now in wide use and it would seem pointless using the older update only to have to go through this whole sorry saga again.

Well a year later and no update to the IOC. I just do not understand this. This software must be abandoned but they are still collecting yearly fees!

The update talk is a lotttt of FLUFF. I heard the same lingo a few years ago. :-((((((( Anything for IOS and the link to iBird pro...birds of N. America??
I'd like to know how you can SAVE personal observation data that has been accumulated over years of birding?

This was delayed for various reasons, but we're now in a position to resume work on this next week. Will keep you posted.

Same old story, now over 4 years out of date, still no updates, what’s the point on working on apps, tutorials etc, when your product is so out of date ?

Hi Justin can you please give a date when IOC will be completed? There will be a new version out in a couple of months. I had hoped, while during lockdown, I could update my lists but that's not happened. I would of thought as a bird listing software, it's main priority would be to keep IOC & Clements lists up to date. What is the point of maintaining your apps if the product is out of date?
Could you please give a date when this will be done rather than saying we are making progress? -
No we've not given up on it.

Just tell us the truth, have you given up on this?
-
We didn't post as there were no notable updates to this topic.
We've just released an important Android app maintenance update, and are presently working on the same for iOS.
Once that's done the focus will be back on IOC.

From your blog in August 2019: "We've made some good progress on an IOC 9.2 taxonomy update in the last weeks. Work is continuing and it will be released soon." GUYS THIS WAS FIVE MONTHS AGO! WHAT IS THE HOLDUP?

Any idea when IOC will be updated? There will be another version out shortly and as you must be aware, the IOC order has changed quite a bit to say the least!

The main reason I subscribed to Bird Journal was that I was hoping for automatic updates to IOC. Justin has responded several times that this is his first priority but that they are "not getting the time we need at the moment". This is inexcusable. We are paying you exactly to have someone find the time and get it done!
I used to recommend to friends to sign up. Sadly I can no longer recommend Bird Journal. -

The database is nearly 3.5 years and about 150 changes out of date, Two recent assurances that update is imminent and nothing has appeared. Time to start looking elsewhere, which having taken two months to enter my spreadsheet based data is somewhat galling!
