The apps are free, recording is free, and premium adds the analysis features for a fixed yearly fee.

Every app is free to download and install, on as many computers and devices as you like. There is nothing to buy in order to start recording, and updates are never charged for.
What free includes
The whole of the recording and browsing experience: entering observations, worldwide bird and wildlife data from the library, search, filtering, import and export, sync across your devices, and backup on our systems.
What premium adds
The analysis features: graphs, maps and reports, plus exporting a report and printing a species list. Our website shows the price in your own currency.
There is a 14-day free trial, with no payment taken and nothing to cancel — when it ends, those features lock again and your records carry on as normal.
Moving between them
Nothing is lost either way. If you decide premium is not for you, the account reverts to free at the end of the year you have paid for and only the analysis features stop being available — every record, photo and checklist stays exactly as it is. There are two discounts worth knowing about: young person subscriptions for anyone under 25, and family subscriptions for others in your household.
