Free and premium: common questions

What free covers, what premium adds, and what happens to your records if you move between them.

Updated

A great deal is included in the free account, and premium adds to it rather than unlocking it. These are the questions we are asked most often.

I am using free — how do I get the newer features?

Update to the latest version of the apps and they are simply there. Some of them need a checklist or taxonomy installed from the Library before they have anything to show.

What does premium cost?

Our website shows the price in your own currency.

How do I upgrade?

From our website, or inside the app on an iPhone, iPad or Android device.

What does premium actually add?

Graphs, maps and reports — along with exporting a report and printing a species list. Recording your observations, and all of your data, is free and always will be.

Can I try it first?

Yes. There is a 14-day free trial with no payment and no auto-renewal: when it ends, graphs, maps and reports simply lock again and nothing else changes.

How does a gift voucher work?

A voucher is for a number of years of premium rather than an amount of money, so what it is worth does not change if prices do. Redeem it by entering the code as the discount code when upgrading on our website; premium is applied to the account straight away and you get an email confirming it.

Keep the confirmation email — the code is the only thing that can be redeemed, so if it goes astray, ask us rather than buying again.

How do I go back to a free account?

Sign in to your account on our website and remove your card details from the Billing section. Your premium subscription runs to the end of the year you have paid for and then stops. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel it there instead.

Will I lose anything if I do?

No. Moving between free and premium is entirely safe, in either direction and as often as you like. Nothing is deleted — the premium features stop being available, and your records stay exactly as they are.

Did this not answer it? We are a small family business and we read every email ourselves.
