Mac version
Make a native mac version of Bird Journal
I’m pleased to report that Bird Journal 5 is now live, with a refined user experience, Mac support and some great new features:
https://www.birdjournal.com/version-five-desktop-app
If you’re currently using Bird Journal Free, a complementary 14-days premium subscription has been activated since license restrictions are now in place.
Many, many thanks for all of your help during the beta. We hope you’re as pleased with the end result as we are. It’s certainly been the most open, collaborative development process for us so far, with the initial beta being available very early on.
And a special thank you to all Mac users for your patience while we made this happen.
Making the web version of Bird Journal available is one of our next priorities.
Best wishes,
Justin

I welcome this news with caution.
You've been promising a Mac version since BJ 1.0. You never did.
I'm now using spreadsheets and don't have to worry about anyone writing and updating software, nor paying hefty annual subscriptions. My mind is at peace that my spreadsheets will be readable on any platform in 50 years time.

Splendid news! Good luck in dealing with the inevitable challenges. Looking forward to using the result.

I can understand that. We've been working on Bird Journal full time since the start of 2014, so are now able to make better progress.

Can't wait - I'm beginning to share some views expressed by others about the very slow development speed. BJ is the only thing for which I have to use VMware Fusion and it's an expensive way to run one bit of software.

The software is decent but a Mac version is essential for me to renew

Love the free version on my iPhone but don't think I'll be subscribing until a Mac version is available.

I have a MacBook Pro and a Intel 2 core duo iMac having to run a old version of windows, purchase Parallels again because my old version is not compatible with 10.9.5 seems a difficult and expensive way of running your Bird Journal on a Mac. Im am sure you loose many customers by not have a direct Mac version. I think its about time this problem was addressed. Mike.

Fully agree, love your product and could make use of many more aspects of it. Now getting bored with having to use clunky old windows laptop version when my daily attention is on iMac and MacBook Pro. I'm sure there are many many more potential customers out there who are put off when they see there is no direct Mac version

I have an iMac computer and a Mac air laptop, at present I'm running BJ on an old HP laptop which has seen better days. Please bring out a Mac version asap.

I completely understand that we've taken too long to do this. I can only ask that you watch our developments over the next 6-9 months.
Best wishes,

I will not buy a Windows computer nor I will install some stupid clunky virtualization software on my Mac. Apart from there is a considerable cost to buy and maintain Windows and Parallels, it will slow things up
You promised a Mac version years ago and I have zero confidence you ever will deliver. I cannot trust my records with someone like that as I don't know whether I spend years paying yearly subscriptions you keep on delivering what you promise.

As a Mac user I had to purchase Parallels plus Window XP ( which is now unsupported) just to run your software. I had assumed, wrongly, that the advertised iOS version would include the iMac. This has been promised for years with no outcome. We have a saying 'eat hay old horse for soon you will get grass!!!" Very disappointing. Fulton Somerville, Northern Ireland

Parallels are much too clunky and unreliable. I had to crank up an old PC to build my first Bird Journal database, but the system crashed. I'm not going to buy another computer just for Bird Journal, so PLEASE give the Mac version some priority. I have a library of bird pics waiting! Peter, Adelaide, South Australia

My windows laptop is not too good and I would like to have a mac as a replacement and want BJ on it (without the parallel running version).

I will not use Parallels on my system! It would slow things down.
Must have a Mac version of Bird Journal!
