Way to view first observation for each year for a species
Whether in the Firsts report, or within the Species section, it would be very nice to see "first observed" date for all years observed to be able to see trends, compare to years with similar weather patterns, etc.

Agreed, I was just thinking that a report like this would be helpful. Ideally one could select a date range (including the current, incomplete year) and see a report with a column for each year showing the date each observed species was FIRST observed. It would be great if it could also be filtered to a specific set of months within each year, and by location/taxonomy. That would (1) allow one to see trends over time for the first-observed date; and (2) identify species that one had already seen "by this time" in previous years but remains unseen in the current year

Yes, a 'year first' report does sound good. I.e with a few clicks it would be possible to see the 'Year First!' for Swallow making it easy to compare the return date for all years.
