Common questions

Why is my email not recognised?

Almost always because there is no account under that address yet. Here is how to tell, and what to do about it.

Updated

Nearly every time, the answer is that no account exists under that address yet. Installing Bird Journal does not create one — you create it the first time you sign up in the app.

So if you are trying to sign in and your address is not recognised, create the account first: open Bird Journal on any device and choose to create an account rather than sign in. After that the same email address and password sign you in everywhere else — Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android and the web app all use the one account.

And if you are trying to subscribe and your address is not recognised, the same thing is behind it: birdjournal.com/premium needs the address of an account that already exists. Create the account in the app first, then subscribe with that address. On an iPhone, iPad or Android device you can subscribe inside the app instead.

Other things worth checking

  • A typo, or a different address. People often have more than one, and it is easy to have signed up with the other one.
  • The address of somebody else in the household. If you are on a family subscription, each person has their own account.

If none of that explains it, get in touch — we can look up whether an account exists and put it right.

Coming from Bird Journal 1, 2 or 3

Those versions used a licence key rather than an account, so an address that worked there will not be recognised until an account has been created. There is one thing to get right when you do, because it decides which records come across — see importing from Bird Journal 1, 2 or 3.

Did this not answer it? We are a small family business and we read every email ourselves.
