Troubleshooting

Why are dates showing in US format when I am in the UK?

The desktop app follows Windows' own date settings, and is fussier about them than most applications.

Updated

The Windows app takes its date format from Windows itself. It reads those settings more strictly than most applications do, which is why you can see US-style dates in Bird Journal while everything else on the computer looks right.

The fix is in Windows rather than in Bird Journal.

Windows 11

  1. Open Settings ▸ Time & language ▸ Language & region.
  2. Set Country or region to the United Kingdom.
  3. Set Regional format to English (United Kingdom).

Windows 10

  1. Open Settings ▸ Time & Language.
  2. Scroll down and click Additional date, time & regional settings.
  3. Under Region, click Change location and set Home location to the United Kingdom.

Restart Bird Journal afterwards so it picks the settings up. If dates are still wrong, get in touch and tell us what the Regional format is set to — there are a couple of combinations that can leave Windows reporting something unexpected.
