Export from eBird, how-to

To export your records from the eBird website first login to your eBird account and open the My eBird screen.

You can either export an individual checklist or all of your data.

Exporting an individual checklist

Open the checklist you want to export then click on the Checklist tools button in the top right corner. Click on the Download menu item.

This will download a file called e.g. S12345678_observations.csv.

You can then proceed to import this file to Bird Journal.

Note that not all fields are included in checklist exports. Entry notes, location lat/long, state/province and breeding code are among those not included. More fields, though not all, are included when exporting all of your data.

Exporting all of your data

Click on ‘Download my data’ to begin downloading your records:

When downloading your records from eBird, the only option is to download all of your data. To begin the download click on the ‘Submit Request’ button. eBird will then send an email to your registered email address with a link that can be used to download your data. The download file will be a compressed zip file which will contain a csv file called ‘MyEBirdData.csv’.

When you have downloaded your records from eBird, the ‘MyEBirdData.csv’ will look similar to the spreadsheet example below:

You can then proceed to import your records to Bird Journal.

Note that not all fields are included in data downloads from eBird, though most of the common fields are.
