Coloured Grids
Square grids -preferably a kilometre square- for us Australians, so that we can get an idea of how species-rich an area might be. We can then click on an individual grid and see the sites within and the species list for that grid -they can be coloured for differing species amounts. This will also allow for a more thorough coverage of a region and encourage birders to visit areas where they would not normally go.

I would also love to have a 1sq km grid overlay on the maps using the MGRS (military grid reference system). Many wildlife organizations around the world use this UTM based grid to map wildlife distribution. As zoothera_pong points out, its a really useful wildlife conservation tool, enabling one to see where the 'hotspots' are, and where more recording is needed!
