Common questions

Why subscriptions?

Bird Journal is free or a fixed yearly fee, and that pays for rather more than an app.

Updated

Bird Journal is either free or a fixed yearly fee. Here is the thinking behind that.

Simple, transparent pricing

Nothing else is charged for. Not the apps, not the checklists, not the updates. You know exactly what you will pay next year, or that you will pay nothing, and you can use Bird Journal on as many computers and devices as you like on the one account.

The latest apps, always

Because updates are not charged for, there is no version of Bird Journal you are stuck on. That keeps things running smoothly as Apple, Google and Microsoft change their operating systems underneath us, and it means new features reach you as soon as they are ready rather than at the next paid release. Updates arrive regularly and install themselves.

More than an app

A recording app on its own would not be much use to somebody who birds across several devices and expects their records to outlive any of them. So a subscription pays for sync and backup that keep your devices in step and your data safe; the library, where checklists and taxonomies are discovered, installed and contributed; the maps and graphs that let you see what you have recorded; and support from the people who wrote it.
