Common questions

Why does Bird Journal tell me no internet connection is available?

When you know the connection is fine, the usual culprit is security software on the computer rather than the connection itself.

Updated

Creating an account and signing in both need a connection, so this message is what you see when Bird Journal cannot reach us at that moment.

If you are genuinely offline, the answer is simply to try again when you are not. Everything else in the app carries on working meanwhile — see does Bird Journal need internet?.

When the connection is fine

On a Windows or Mac computer, the usual cause is security software blocking Bird Journal specifically while the rest of the machine is online.

We have seen this most often with Norton Internet Security, and its Smart Firewall in particular. Turning the Smart Firewall off confirms it, but the better fix is to add an exception for Bird Journal and leave the firewall on.

Other security packages can do the same thing, so if you use one it is worth looking through its settings for anything blocking Bird Journal.

If you have ruled that out and it still will not connect, tell us which app and which operating system you are on, and we will help you work out what is in the way.
