Common questions

How secure is my data in Bird Journal's systems?

What we do with your records, what we do not do with them, and how many copies exist.

Updated

Your records are the work of years, and often of a lifetime. We treat them accordingly.

  • We never share your data with third parties.
  • We do not store your password. What we hold is a one-way hash of it, which is why we can check a password but cannot tell you what yours is.
  • Everything between your devices and our systems is encrypted in transit.
  • You hold a full copy yourself, on every device with the app installed — so your records do not depend on us being here.
  • We hold two copies of your latest data, not one.
  • We keep multiple historical backups, so a mistake is recoverable rather than merely survivable.

Our privacy policy has the detail.

Photos are the one thing not automatically copied to every device — they are fetched as you look at them. Tools ▸ Download All Photos brings them all down to the device you are on, in every app except the web one, which keeps nothing on your machine.
